Friday Social Club

End the Week Together

Friday Social Club - Your Weekend Starts Here

Every Friday from 7pm to 9:30pm, we transform our venue into the place to be for young people aged 11-16. Friday Social Club creates a safe, supervised environment where teenagers can socialise, relax, and have genuine fun as the school week ends and the weekend begins. It's part disco, part chill-out space, part tuck shop paradise - and completely teenage-focused.

A Space Designed for Teens

Friday nights recognise that teenagers have different needs from younger children. The atmosphere is more mature, the music is current and member-selected, the lighting creates ambiance rather than harsh brightness, and the vibe is relaxed rather than highly structured. We trust our members with increased freedom whilst maintaining clear boundaries and excellent supervision.

Our venue is zoned to cater to different moods and preferences. The main hall becomes a disco with professional lighting, sound system, and member DJs taking turns on the decks. The chill-out lounge offers comfortable seating, quieter music, and space for conversation. The games area features pool tables, table tennis, board games, and console gaming. The tuck shop becomes a social hub where friends gather. Members move freely between zones based on their mood and interests.

Music, Dancing, and Member-Led Entertainment

Music is central to Friday nights, and members control the playlist! Our DJ system allows member DJs to take turns playing sets, learning basic DJ skills whilst sharing their musical tastes. We're not stuck in youth worker music preferences - you'll hear current chart hits, grime, drill (age-appropriate lyrics only!), indie, pop, dance, and whatever else our members love.

Dancing happens organically - no forced participation or choreographed routines. Some members spend entire evenings on the dancefloor. Others prefer watching and chatting. Both are absolutely fine! Our themed disco nights (80s, 90s, neon, Halloween, Christmas) create special atmospheres that everyone enjoys, with many members arriving in impressive themed outfits.

The Art of Hanging Out

Sometimes the most valuable thing we offer is simply space and time for teenagers to hang out. Friendships deepen through unstructured social time that schools and homes don't always provide. Friday nights offer this in abundance. Friends catch up on the week, make plans for the weekend, share interests, offer support, and simply enjoy each other's company.

Our youth workers understand when to engage and when to step back. We're present and approachable but not intrusive. Teenagers appreciate having adults around who they trust but who don't hover or force interactions. This balance creates an environment where genuine teenage culture flourishes within safe boundaries.

Tuck Shop Culture

Our Friday tuck shop deserves special mention! With a wider range of treats than other sessions (because Friday!), it becomes a social institution. Sharing snacks, debating which sweets are best, pooling money for group purchases, and timing tuck shop visits to maximise socialising are all part of the Friday experience. We keep prices reasonable so everyone can participate.

We also offer healthier options and accommodate dietary requirements carefully. Members with allergies can shop safely, vegetarians and vegans have choices, and we provide free water throughout the evening. The tuck shop is fun, but we also take responsibility for nutrition and inclusion seriously.

Themed Events and Special Nights

Regular Friday socials are excellent, but our themed events elevate things to legendary status! Halloween brings costume competitions, spooky decorations, themed music, and special activities. Christmas means Secret Santa, festive parties, special food, and celebration. Valentine's celebrates friendship (because teenage romance is complicated enough without youth club involvement!). Summer means outdoor socials when weather permits.

We host talent shows where members perform music, dance, comedy, or other skills. Battle of the Bands nights showcase member musicians. Quiz nights (with teenage-appropriate questions) create team competition. Games tournaments add excitement. Film nights in our cosy cinema setup provide different Friday options. These special events become moments members talk about for months.

Building Teenage Confidence and Social Skills

Friday Social Club subtly supports teenage development whilst feeling purely social. Navigating friendships, reading social situations, managing conflicts, expressing opinions respectfully, including others, and being included themselves are all social skills that develop through regular attendance. Our youth workers facilitate positive interactions, challenge negative behaviours, and support members through social difficulties.

For teenagers who find social situations challenging, Friday nights offer supported practice in a safer environment than school or unsupervised settings. We've watched shy members blossom into confident socialites, isolated individuals find friend groups, and anxious teens develop social ease. The consistent, predictable nature of Friday sessions creates security that enables growth.

Safe Socialising in Supervised Spaces

Parents appreciate Friday Social Club because we provide safe socialising that teenage independence demands but parental concerns require. Our venue is secure, staff are DBS-checked and trained, ratios are maintained, behaviour expectations are clear, and we maintain contact with parents. Teenagers get freedom to socialise within boundaries that keep them safe.

We have clear policies around appropriate behaviour, phone use (allowed but monitored), social media (we encourage putting phones away and being present!), and relationships (friendships celebrated, romantic relationships handled sensitively). These frameworks create environments where teenagers can be themselves whilst learning appropriate social conduct.
